Photo Mechanicâ„¢ Version 4.3.5 History
Below is a list of changes made to Photo Mechanic for Version 4.3.5, released April 26, 2005.
This version is available as a free update for registrations good through December 2004.
- Fixed a problem with certain operations not working on photos that haven't been "scanned" yet. For example, if you opened a contact sheet and sorted by Filename, then immediately did a Select All followed by an operation like Rotate, only the first photos that had been scanned and had their thumbnail generated (in the background) would rotate. The same was true with the following operations: Select Tagged, Tag Selected Photos, and Apply IPTC to Selected Photos. Sorting by Capture Time would force all photos to be scanned during the sort of the contact sheet and therefore did not produce this problem.
- Added support for browsing RAW CR2 files from the Canon Digital Rebel XT.
- Now recognizes sRGB or AdobeRGB for the Nikon D2X when using Color Mode 1 or 3.
- Fixed a problem viewing Nikon NEF files that have been created by Nikon Capture Control (i.e. tethered mode).
- Changed the keyboard shortcuts for the Slide Show to mirror the single selection edit mode. Now '+' (or the '=' key) will tag a photo, '-' (minus) will clear the tag for a photo, 'T' will toggle the tag. Also, as with the Preview dialog, the 'D' key will dismiss the photo (deselect it).
- Added the ability to save IPTC Stationery (as .IPT or .XMP files) with blank fields that are checked. This allows for loading an IPTC Stationery file that clears certain IPTC fields.
- Fixed problems with evaluating IPTC variables into the IPTC Supplemental Category 1-3 fields. Also fixed a problem with applying Supplemental Category 2 or 3 during ingest if a previous Supplemental Category field wasn't being applied.
- Fixed a problem with properly loading the IPTC Stationery Pad by dragging an IPT or XMP file on top of the Photo Mechanic application from the Explorer (Win) or Finder (Mac).
- Fixed a problem with missing Exif data when browsing Canon RAW CRW files. The Exif information is contained in the associated .THM file, and Photo Mechanic was not "attaching" this file to the CRW file. This would also cause a problem with renaming and copying not performing the same operation on the .THM file.
- Fixed the constrained crop function for files that are saved in a portrait orientation. Photo Mechanic wouldn't swap the width & height of the default constrained crop. Also made the constrained crop option stick when drawing new crops for a photo. The constrained attribute can be cleared by holding the Shift (Win) or Option (Mac) key and clicking on the "Remove Crop" button.
- Fixed the Apply IPTC Snapshot function to not apply the IPTC date or time when pasting.
- Added protection from crashing when parsing ICC profile files that are corrupted or truncated.
- Added protection from crashing when loading bad photos that are selected as part of a Save As.
- (Mac) Fixed a few problems with OS 10.4 (Tiger): error message on startup if preference set to open an empty contact sheet; the "Open contact sheet" command was always dimmed; scrolling using scroll wheel was not scrolling whole rows at a time.
- (Mac) Fixed a problem with black thumbnails appearing when the folder being browsed is renamed in the Navigator.
- (Mac) The Ingest, Copy, Save As, Rename, and FTP As dialogs now have a shortcut key and tool tip for toggling the Sequence checkbox (Command-Option-S).
- (Mac) Fixed a problem with browsing from a ISO-9660 formatted CD.
- (Mac) The F5 Refresh of the Favorites and Navigator panes now works properly, and folders that are opened (by the disclosure triangle) in the Favorites or Navigator panes now automatically refresh.
- (Mac) Fixed a problem with using the Mac's full keyboard access and assigning the space bar to the Close button. This would crash the Ingest progress windows.
- (Win) Increased the width of the FTP address in the FTP Connections dialog (it was previously limited to the visible width and wouldn't scroll horizontally).
- (Win) Added more MAPI error messages that provide instructions on how to configure MAPI on systems that have MAPI errors when sending photos as email attachments. A good resource for help is at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=178077.
- (Win) Exit of slideshow now sets the focus to the Photo Mechanic application window. Previously a random window on the Desktop would come forward.
